Dr. Alexander Abkin and Dr. Nicholas Bertha, along with their collegue Dr. Vincent Iannace are dedicated to minimally invasive weight loss surgery and medical weight loss management. Through various regional affiliations, the doctors provide exceptional care for patients throughout New Jersey, from north to south. ALSOM’s on-site assets are unparalleled, including a state-of-the-art surgery center and a radiologic band adjustment center on the premises.

For the past year, the doctors have also been performing single-incision laparoscopic bariatric surgery. This approach features one incision in the abdominal wall rather than multiple incisions to accomplish the intended procedure and is more cosmetic with less scarring.

 

The practice is recognized as a Center of Excellence by the American College of Surgeons and the Surgical Review Corporation for the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Both doctors are also directors of Bariatric care at Saint Clare’s Hospital in Dover. In addition, Dr. Abkin is medical director of bariatric care at JFK Medical Center in Edison, and Dr. Bertha is medical director of bariatric care at Saint Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick.
