Dr. Aram E. Jawed
In addition to his Medical Doctorate (MD), Dr. Jawed has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. He has studied and taught cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness including, but not limited to, progressive muscle relaxation and yoga. During his medical and surgical training he traveled to India to learn holistic and alternative approaches to healing and studied the art of Yoga from where it originated. He was trained by various Guru’s (yoga masters) and also learned many other Ayurvedic and Eastern alternative healing techniques such as cupping, reflexology, aromatherapy, and herbal medicine. He found Yoga to be the most beneficial and efficacious. His goal is to complement Advanced Western medicine with holistic healing strategies to further assist patients in sustained weight loss maintenance, stress reduction, and improve their overall quality of life.
The Restorative (Bariatric) Yoga Class that Dr. Jawed has designed caters to patients who suffer from obesity and arthritis. It is specifically targeted for pre and post-surgical patients who are limited in their mobility. Limited range of motion or inability to sit on the floor will in no way hinder a participant’s ability to benefit from all aspects of the class. Participants can benefit from all of the poses, stretches, and breathing exercises while seated, as well as the meditation and mindfulness techniques that are incorporated into each session.
