Preoperative Blood Testing

All patients who are considering Gastric Bypass Surgery and Lap Band Surgery need to undergo preoperative blood testing. These tests are considered "baseline", and are used to compare post operative levels as well as diagnose any underlying blood abnormalities. Here is a list of the tests:

• CBC
• CMP (requires fasting)
• Lipid Profile (requires fasting)
• Iron Profile
• Folate
• Ferritin
• TSH
• HGbA1c
• Vitamin B12
• Vitamin B1 (Thiamine Level, Frozen Specimen, Needs to be protected from light)
• H. Pylori, Urea Breath Test

It is recommended these labs are drawn prior to your initial consultation. Please note these labs are not to be confused with pre admission testing. Some patients will require additional testing within thirty (30) days of surgery depending on age, gender, and previous medical history, If you need to request a lab requisition, please contact us.
